KS4 Boys Volleyball County Finals

Posted on: 10/03/2020

After winning the local area competition, the year 11 Volleyball team ventured to the County Finals full of confidence. The county competition has a representatives from all areas of Leicestershire & Rutland who also won their local area competitions. The standard of Volleyball was very high in comparison to the local area competition. The boys knew they had to be consistent if they were to challenge for the trophy.

In our first game we took on Robert Smyth, and after securing a convincing 19-3 victory, the boys confidence grew. We went on to win our next 4 games showing excellent resilience and consistency throughout. Going into the final game, we knew a win would secure the trophy, however we faced Priory Belvoir, who just like us had won all their previous games too. The final game turned out to be an intense final, a closely competed game where both teams were leading at times in the game. As the referee called ‘last minute’ we were losing by 1 point, however the boys maintained their immaculate composure and levelled the scores and with the referee about to blow the whistle we managed to secure the final point, which sent our boys into jubilant celebrations.

The competition organisers commented on the integrity of the team and how well they competed throughout the tournament. It was a pleasure to take the boys and I am sure this experience will stay with the team for time to come.

Shane K, one of the members of the team had the following to say:

"I can honestly say today was a thrilling, tense and passionate experience and journey. As a team we came together and where able to overcome the immense pressure, coming away with a much deserved win, defeating all appointments we played. Nothing taken away from the other teams as they to played a phenomenal game, but it was very clear the passion and heart we showed was what gave us the edge over them that we needed. All players on the team should be most proud and excited as they all played a major part in our resounding victory. We successfully carried the name and integrity of the Lancaster academy and proved further why heart can go a long way."
