Year 10 READY Day!

SMB College

Year 10 students at @SMBCollegeGroup , making positive future choices for their college applications. Well done they were engaged, asked relevant questions linking to Employability.

DeMontfort University

Year 10 students enjoyed a thought provoking taster experience of further education, students participated in a variation of university courses including Criminology, Marketing and Fine Art.

• Criminology consisted of a seminar/lecture on victims and perpetrators where students explored a key themes through iconic criminal cases.

• Fine Art was presented by artist Jemisha Maadhvaji an abstract portait artist who introduced the use of charcoal using formal elements to create abstract portraits. Students were fully absorbed in this session modelling Respect for the medium used and for the effort gone into preparing the session

• Marketing tied in nicely with the other sessions as it got students to think about the 7P’s in relation to existing products. They learnt about innovative methods of promotion from an expert. Employability was considered in this session through group work, planning and feedback. The lecturer valued

student responses as they modelled care and consideration for others whilst participating in case studies.

Overall this trip was a success thankyou to all those involved. DMU were very organised and positive we must continue to build this careers link as there is more we could potentially do, thankyou all as I know a great deal of organisation takes place organising trips. We are Lancaster we are READY!

Loughborough University

Loughborough University campus offers world class facilities for every aspect of University life, from their award winning four-storey library and STEM lab to their fantastic sports facilities including two gyms, an Olympic size swimming pool and elite athlete centre.

On campus there is everything students need within close walking distance, from open spaces, gardens and sports pitches to academic buildings, Loughborough Students’ Union and the halls of residence.

During their visit to this fantastic campus students engaged in teamwork in an array of activities including curling and touchball. Students really enjoyed the day.

Leicester University

Year 10s also went to Leicester University for the day to get an idea of what it feels like to be student. The first half of the morning was spent talking about pathways into University, the number and types of courses on offer and financing University Education. They also had a chance to speak with current students about what being a student is all about. The day ended with a lecture being given about the Rights and Wrongs of protesting and what it means to live in a democracy where we are can protest but within the limits of the current legal framework.
