Lancaster Teacher receives Inspirational Award!Posted on: 21/06/2019
We are so Proud of Mrs Hurst
In January of this year we received some very exciting news that an ex-student, now at Oxford University, had nominated his much loved German teacher, Mrs Hurst, for an award. Roman nominated Mrs Hurst for the Oxford University Inspirational Teacher Award, awarded to teachers who have taught Oxford under graduates in state schools.
Mrs Hurst was therefore proud to attend an award ceremony at Oxford University, Winchester College, where she was presented with the award.
Recordings were shown of each nominated teacher teaching in their own schools, speeches were made by university under graduates and members of the judging panel. A three course meal to celebrate followed in Winchester College.
The overwhelming feeling Mrs Hurst felt was that she was being honoured by the custodians of education; she was bowled over by history of the college and their forward thinking desire to include more students from more diverse backgrounds. She said: ‘It feels like it was the peak of my career. I don’t know how I can top this. It is the ultimate reward for doing your job. I would like to thank Roman for his determination to succeed in his ambitions to study at Oxford and for also having the consideration to think of me as being part of his history and of his future.’
