Year 10 Football

Posted on: 29/01/2020

On Tuesday 28th January the Year 10 football team played in the Semi Final of the Leicestershire and Rutland School Cup.

This was the first time they qualified for the semi-final, after getting knocked out in the Quarter Finals in the previous two years. Our opponents, Brookvale Groby are the current holders of the cup. It was them who we came unstuck against in last year’s Quarter Final.

The game started evenly with both teams playing good football. We created chances but were unable to make the pressure count. The breakthrough came after 15 minutes, Eli winning possession back high up the field, plying the ball in to Jakeem who crossed the ball for Fabian to give us a deserved lead.

Confidence grew and we began to control the game without adding to the score line.

Half time 1-0.

The message at half time was to play with a high tempo and be disciplined in and out of possession. The high tempo paid off when Troy doubled our lead after some good build up play. Brookvale reacted by placing us under sustained pressure for the first time in the game and a golden opportunity was missed by them to reduce the deficit.

A few tactical changes and substitutions were needed for us to regain our composure, Dannen dropping into Midfield and Qumar coming on so we can use his pace to cause them problems. Qumar made an instant impact by adding a third goal well taken goal.

Brookvale did not stop, they came at us again and scored a wonderful goal from long range. Again we regrouped and kept our discipline by keeping our shape, Qumar adding his second and our fourth goal to all but seal the victory with 10 minutes to play.

Final Score - The Lancaster Academy 4 Brookvale Groby 1

An outstanding performance and achievement for the team to qualify for the final. Congratulations to all involved. The Final will be played on 10th March in Market Harborough.
