Black History Month - ITV News at Lancaster

Posted on: 02/10/2020

Yesterday, Thursday 1st October a news crew from ITV National News visited us to report about how schools cover Black History Month in lessons. This is obviously of special interest since George Floyd’s tragic murder escalated the Black Lives Matter movement to international news. We at Lancaster Academy believe its important to teach young people about the world they will be active members of and we do so by highlighting the great successes of humankind but also the disappointing aspects – racism, sexism, social inequality. We like to remind students that the world is theirs to improve, and they can utilise their learning to empower themselves and pave a better and more equal world for all.
