WISPA 2018

Posted on: 27/09/2018

A group of our Year 9 girls went to the WISPA (Women in Sport & Physical Activity) sporting activities event. This is where schools from across Leicester City attend with their Year 9 girls. On the way to the event the mini bus was alive with singing, joking and excitement about the day, with all of the girls looking forward to their activities. Throughout the day the girls took part in 3 different workshops of their choice; ranging from street dance and yoga to kickboxing and swimming. The girls did themselves, the school and myself proud. They gave all activities their full effort and really enjoyed it “wow Miss this is awesome” being one of the reactions to the kickboxing session. There were a lot of laughs, smiles and new friendships made.

The day was run by staff from the Leicester City School Sport and Physical Activity network and Leicester City Council. The event was held at Braunstone Leisure Centre, where they had provision for the girls throughout the day. There were also some Key Stage 3/4 students from across the city that had volunteered for the day, which may become an opportunity for our Lancaster girls at future events. After the activities had finished, there was a final group dance activity followed by an inspirational talk from Natasha who ran the kickboxing workshop. Natasha herself was inspired by the WISPA event a few years ago and now is running a successful business of her own.

After the excitement of the activities, face painting and making new friends it was time to head back to school with “WISPA you’ve been amazing” being the theme on the way home! Exhausted and worn out the girls were quiet and the journey back to school was decidedly more calm.
